De-centrate

Scottish Highland Pony

‘Tell me more about the difference between doing and being,’ I asked. Epo-Na had just been rolling around in a sandpit that she had dug out especially for that purpose, but at my question she jumped up.
‘Doing is con-centric,’ she said, and being is ex-centric, but to get to that state you have to first de-centrate yourself.’
I had never heard that word before.
‘What does de-centrate mean?’, I asked.
‘It is when you stop con-centrating. To con-centrate means moving towards your center, thinking that you are the center of the Universe. De-centrating means that you realize that you aren’t, and so you can move fluidly into ex-centrating. Only in that state of ex-centration, when there is no more ‘you’, can the Universe play on you like on a musical instrument and bring out the best of you, which is your true Self’.
‘Now here is the million dollar question for you, Epo-Na’, I said. ‘How do I de-centrate?’
‘Breathe’, she said, ‘breathe into your belly. You are connected to the Universe with an umbilical cord that comes out of your belly. All living things, including trees and rocks, have that connection. When you breathe into you belly you become aware of that connection, and that is where your egocenter cannot follow you; it is beyond its power. It is through your belly that you hear the music of the Universe; it is with your belly that you feel the ultimate Goodness in which we all move and live, which is our true home.’
Epo-Na buckled her front legs and then, buckling her hind ones too, she plonked heavily back into the sandpit and started rolling again.
At a safe distance from her massive body I also rolled in the sand to try it out.
It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
