Summer Solstice

‘What about me, what about me, what about me?’, whimpered Bonnie.

‘What about what?’

‘Can’t I be with you? Have you forgotten me too?’

I looked at the curly little body, ears flopping, eyes black and sparkling.

‘Yes pleasssssepleassssepleassse can she be with me?’ squeaked Chickanee.

I picked Bonnie up and put her next to Chickanee. They nosed each other and then started to play, running around like mad.

‘There are so many things I am grateful for, and so many things that I have forgotten, but that are there, nevertheless, inside me,’ I remarked to Epo-Na.

It was summer solstice, a time to remember, a time to reflect, a time to be grateful, a time to love.

Epo-Na smiled that smile that made my heart go thumpthumpthump.

‘Keep on remembering,‘ she whispered, ’you will have a zoo in the end running around in your heart. They will make you laugh, come rain come sun.’

Summer solstice - I wondered what the autumn equinox would hold in store, when I heard Epo-Na whisper: ‘Don’t think, just BE’.

She ruffled my hair with her soft nose, and I felt an immense gratitude wash over me for all the things there were in my life to love and cherish, now, in this moment, on the summer solstice.

‘Yes,’ I thought, ‘just BE, and let the Universe take care of the rest.’
